We really enjoyed our stay on the boat, Esther, who has welcomed us, was really kind and all was really uncomplicated with the organisation around.
We have been surprised and happy about to be so central to all things and
places around. We like to recommend the boat to others visitors.. ;-)
Thank you, Esther and Ruud.
I stayed 3 nights with two girlfriends on the boat. It is just as in the description: Cozy furnished, well located and a really nice place to relax and spend a weekend. The fridge was already equipped and Ruud welcomed us really friendly. However, we were a bit irritated that Ruud showed up every day on the boat at different times to work in his office which has neither a separate entrance nor toilet. This should be stressed in the description. We thought that we rented the whole boat. Therefore, we felt limited our privacy, especially, because he was not very discrete.
We spent 1 week in this beautiful houseboat. The host was very kind and caring, the houseboat is well maintained with nice furniture and great location. 5 minutes walk to the city center. Great tips from the host to where to go and what to do. Thank you so much Ruud for this beautiful holiday. Gabriele & Anna & Ziggy. P.s. we'll definitely coming again.
Our stay on Le Bateau Ivre was wonderful! We met the host, Ruud, who is very friendly and accommodating. The houseboat is very comfortable and clean, with great views of Morschspoort and Windmill de Put. It was really lovely seeing boats cruise by in the morning very peaceful. We definitely recommend staying here as it is so close to transport, shops and many attractions.
Thankyou for the truly wonderful stay, we'd love to come back again!
Very nice and spacious accommodation! Perfect location for a visit to Leiden, Den Haag, Rotterdam and Amsterdam. Very friendly owner.
I was very excited to be staying on a houseboat when visiting friends in Leiden. The boat has very good facilities and Ruud, the owner, was very generous buying in fruit and bread for us. However, Ruud should make it clear on the description of the boat that he has a room on the boat which he works in in the afternoons. As we were under the impression that we were renting the whole boat and the details describe 2 bedrooms we were disappointed that we did not have the boat to ourselves.
Dear Ruud, we´re sorry to answer you so late after our trip and staying on your nice and lovely ´swimming home´, but out work was immediately so much after comming home. We thank you a lot for your kindest help for our stay in leiden and your konfortable breakfast-buying! We slept like kings and enjoyed our staying on bord; we´re all feel pitty, that we´ve not seen each other before going home. Hope you´ve a lot of guests ``on bord`` - who would like to come in future like us. Best wishes and regards from all of us christel and christian and also ralf and sabine, we see us...
What a fantastic place to stay. We had been looking forward to staying on Ruud's houseboat from the first time we saw it on your site and we were not disappointed.
When we arrived we were blown away with the location, just over the canal from the culture museum and the old north gate into the town .
We rang the bell and Ruud came to the door with a great big welcome sign to greet us onto his boat, what a lovely touch.
Ruud is a perfect gentleman and went out of his way to give us advice on how everything operated on the boat and gave us ideas on things to do during our stay.
The boat is so comfortable and peaceful that you just drift away( not literally as the boat is tied up) and chill out completely with a glass of wine on the patio just outside the large veranda windows at the front of the boat.
Over the road there is a very secure car park which charges 10 euros for a 24 hour stay so that was very handy for us. The railway and bus stations are just a 5 minute walk away. We took the train to Rotterdam and had a great day there. You can also go to The Hague and Amsterdam by Train, there is even a bus to and from the Airport at Schipol if you do not want to hire a car.
Ruud provided us with a a starter kit of food ,wine, beer and fruit which was very nice of him. We didnt see Ruud again till the night before we left as we were away most days visiting the great many places you can go to in the area . We would highly recommend visiting the windmills at Kinder-dyke, a UNESCO world heritage site and the town of Delft. Leiden itself is a great place to explore and has an interesting market twice a week when you can sample the many cheeses and other local products of the area.
Cheers Ruud and thank you for giving us a wonderful place to stay with all the comforts of home, we loved it .

I am disgusted that I still have not had a response but numerous emails asking for a review so you leave me no choice but to leave it here in the review.
Perhaps we may get in the very least an acknowledgment this time
I will be posting our review through other avenues should we not get a response within 48 hours.
Hello,We are due to leave our accommodation this morning but we feel we should bring something to your attention. We are leaving feeling totally unsatisfied and gutted. Whilst the boat house is really beautiful and as described, something was not. Our Host Rudd was at the boat to greet us and show us around etc. He explained that he usually lives on the boat whilst there are no guests. He then went on to explain that he works at the boat every day 2-5. We just assumed that, again, this was when there were no guests. We were wrong. The very next day (Thursday) Rudd turned up at 12 "to work". I couldn't believe it. My husband explained that we were getting ready to go to a wedding and we would be leaving at 2. Rudd said that he would go out and come back but he never did, instead got to work, painting the outside of the boat. This day we had planned for our family to join us for pre drinks. However, we canceled as we no longer felt comfortable to do so with Rudd being there. Therefore every one opting to go back to their hotels/out to the bar for drinks.I needed to get myself ready for the wedding whilst my husband was out at the bar.Again not feeling comfortable I was left locking myself in the bedroom to get dressed and calling for my husband to come back. The whole point of booking the boat house was to have the freedom of "house living". We had planned to entertain for our family who had flown in all the way from Los Angeles. On the Friday, we had plans to be out so we don't know what time Rudd turned up.We finished our day at 4.30pm. Whilst everybody else returned to their hotels we felt that we should hold back to wait for Rudd to leave at 5. We came back to the boat about 5.20pm and Rudd was still at the boat.We had no choice but to come in and quickly get changed in the confines of the bedroom. Again we had to cancel pre dinner drinks as we were not sure on how long Rudd intended on staying. We left earlier than planned at about 6.10pm leaving Rudd behind.I know that any complaints are supposed to be brought to your attention within 24 hours but due to the sensitivity of the complaint I am sure you will understand. This is not something that I feel we could bring up with Rudd. It is after all his home. However we feel completely cheated as we did not book a shared boat or just a room but this is how it felt.We are so disappointed by this whole experience. Plans that had been made months in advance had to be dropped last minute and we were left feeling uncomfortable and tense when instead we should have been feeling relaxed and happy. The boat house is not advertised in the correct manner. No where does it state that the host would come to work whilst you are a guest. What makes this worse is that our friends who live here in Leiden had seen a review that the owners live on the boat whilst they had guests. So she came to the boat in person and met with Rudd's wife who was adamant that this was not the case at all and we would have the boat to ourselves. There was no mention of Rudd coming to work on the boat either. Our friend was assured that all would be as we expected. This experience has taught us that was a bare face lie. The boat has a sewer smell problem also, something I would have normally felt okay with brining up with our host. However I could not bring myself to speak with him as I feel so totally cheated and uncomfortable. This problem in itself is not huge but I should bring it to your attention none the less.So in the main, we are left feeling really unhappy about our experience. This was planned for so long and should have been a really happy special time. It's not often we get to spend time with our loved ones from Los Angeles and Holland. This was going to be the perfect time and place for it. The boat is really lovely and in a great location. The intrusion of the host let's it down.I feel that under the circumstances it is not unfair for us to ask you, as our booking agent to seek some sort of satisfactory compensation.Thank You in advance for taking the time to read this lengthy email.RegardsMrs&Mr Clemett-Davies
